Does Morrell Park have a neighborhood watch?
On my block alone there is one house where the gang members congregate late into the night and often street race and a house nearby is a hotbed of drug activity (you can actually watch them sell and use in front of the house). I probably answered my own question, but is there a program in the neighborhood? |

I know it may be difficult, but it sounds as if this neighborhood is in need of an active watch. It would take a lot of courage, but if enough of the good guys start bonding together to get get one going (safety in numbers), then maybe at some point you can begin to take back the neighborhood. Unfortunately, your situation would be very tricky because of the situations you have described.
![]() One thought... Is there by any chance an officer lives in your neighborhood that could assist in getting the program going? |

I don't believe we have any officers in the neighborhood. As far as the offenders on Morrell Street. It's interesting you mention them. Last Halloween I actually saw kids going up to those houses.
It's a shame, but we're outnumbered here. When you can be accosted by gang members in your own front yard in broad daylight....they walk up and down the street making sure everyone knows they're here. |

My understanding when I purchased was that Morrell park is the area between Park St and the Loop and Garth and Main Streets.
The language barrier is much larger now, for sure. However, I don't think as many section 8 homes are here as you might think. The property values have been so high that the home sales are quite high right now. In fact, many of the former section 8 homes were sold because the taxes were so high. |

Okay. When we think about organizing a neighborhood, we don't realize that all we have to do is enlist one family...then another and then let them reach another until we have a network.
Start by getting the help and confidence of one household, maybe on Schilling or Gresham: ![]() Be cautious, but the two of y'all start calling the cops everytime you see something. Get licenses numbers and descriptions, but blend in and act like you have no idea who is doing what. then keep recruiting folks who you trust.

Morrell Park
I grew up in Morrell Park, we moved there in 1942 when I was a baby and Garth Road was but a dirt road. We walked to Lamar and to Horace Mann and to town. We knew all our neighbors and we all went to either Grace Methodist or Memorial Baptist. It was a very fine place to live. We moved to Graywood when I was a teenager.
I cannot believe how many of the registered sex offenders live on Morrell alone. There are still too many good folks living there to let it go to ruin. Get those neighbors you know who are law abiding as you are and start some kind of action, it only takes one to make the word spread, WE WANT OUR NEIGHBORHOOD BACK. Morrell Park is Park, Morrell, Gresham and Schilling. Focus on one homeowner on each block and see what happens. I imagine someone is just waiting for you to make the first move. God bless.... ![]() BB: I LIKE IT! Last edited by baytownbert; 09-16-2007 at 08:05 PM. |

I grew up on Morrell. It has definitely gone downhill since the 80s. The house that got raided with the Aryan Group was my 1st wifes house that my grandmother was letting her live in for FREE! Trashy people they are! She's still in prison and hasnt seen our kids in the last 6 years. Anywho, the ones that killed that guy ended up gettin 1 or 2 more murder jackets pinned on them. 1 got the death penalty and the other 2 or 3 got life without parole.

I always thought Francis and Homan were morrell park also.
Not that it matters. There are signs of renewal where really nice remodeling has been done. The slab cracking caused by lack of rebar during WWII hinders things. |

They used to have a very active one (by the few that were serious about it) as I was very involved... after the person heading it moved, it seem to dissipate.
