Skeletal Remains Recovered

On Tuesday, September 8, 2009,at 3:05pm, skeletal remains were located in southern Chambers County. A crew of workers with debris clean-up, working in conjunction with Chambers County, were clearing debris in an area of private pastureland off of FM 562 between Lone Oak Bayou and Smith Point, Texas, when the remains were discovered. That location, in southern Chambers County, is in the same vicinity as where the two survivors of Hurricane Ike and two other bodies from Ike were located after the storm struck nearly a year ago.

Chambers County Sheriff’s Investigators collected the remains and forwarded them to the Jefferson County Morgue for autopsy. At this point, it is believed that the remains are those of one of the four people missing from the Bolivar Peninsula after Hurricane Ike, but a medical examiner will have to determine whether it was a male of female due to extensive decomposition. The only identifying trait was that the deceased had previously suffered a skull fracture in the area of the left eye. The bones had been pieced back together with surgical wire.

Anyone with information to help identify the victim is asked to contact the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office at 409-267-2518.

Well, it's tragic that they are dead, but if it's a missing person from Ike, at least it will give another family some closure.
